Winona State Results | Saint Mary's Results
WINONA, Minn. - Bethel's women's tennis team returned home this weekend empty-handed after dropping a pair of matches. The Royals dropped a non-conference match against Division II Winona State on Friday night 9-0 before falling 6-3 in conference play to Saint Mary's on Saturday.
Winona State proved to be too much for the Royals to handle on Friday night as the Warriors swept the match 9-0.
Ashley Watts (Sr., Winona, Minn.) was the only Royal to not lose in straight sets as she came up just short, falling 6-1, 3-6, 3-10.
The Royals returned right back to action Saturday and played a much better match against the Cardinals, but still came up short in a losing effort 6-3. Saint Mary's stole two of three from the Royals in the doubles portion of the match as
Heather Ritger (Sr., Glenwood, Minn.) and
Ashley Dohlen (Sr., Morris, Minn.) were the lone duo to win their match, 8-3. Moving to the singles portion of the competition the Royals fared no better, as Watts and Dohlen provided the only victories against their Cardinal opponents. Dohlen won in an exciting fashion, winning 7-5, 1-6, 10-8.
With the two losses on the weekend the Royals now stand at 3-11 overall and 0-7 in conference play, but are optimistic as they are set for a non-conference match-up with Southwest Minnesota State University Saturday April 17.
