KISSIMMEE, Fla. - This past week, the Bethel womens tennis team traveled to Florida for a long week of playing some tennis and soaking up the sun on the side. During their trip they played five matches and were able to come away with two wins.
The Royal's first match was against Webber International University. Although Bethel played great, they ended up losing the match 5-4. Winning matches for the Royals were
Heather Ritger (Sr., Glenwood, Minn.),
Krista Nauman (So., Buffalo, Minn.),
Ashley Watts (Sr., Winona, Minn.), and the doubles team of Ritger and
Ashley Dohlen (Sr., Morris, Minn.). Bethel's second opponent was UW-LaCrosse, who proved to be a bit too strong for the Royals who ended up losing 9-0.
After their loss to UW-LaCrosse, Bethel was able to bounce back and play very strong their last three games winning two of them and nearly all three of them. The Royals won two matches in a row beating St. Ambrose University 7-2 and Nichols College 8-1, then finished the trip with a hard fought 5-4 loss to Otterbein College. Bethel's doubles teams went 6-0 during their two wins thanks to the teams of Ritger and Dohlen, Nauman and Watts, and
Lisa Scheevel (Fr., St. Cloud, Minn.) and
Steph Brown (Fr., Lake City, Minn.). During their last three matches they also had some strong singles performances which included Watts and Nauman winning all three of their matches, while Ritger and Dohlen each had two wins.
The Royals' next match is Saturday when they will head to Macalester College to take on the Scots in a match that will begin at noon.
