BOX SCORE
BLAINE, MN - The Bethel University Men's Hockey team faced the St. John's University Johnies after a comeback victory the previous night with a score of 5-4. However, things were not the same as bethel came up short in a 4-1 loss and a grand total of 58 penalty minutes
The Royals started slow again as St. John's battled hard for their first goal at 6:14 into the first period. This time Bethel answered back with one of their own, by
Chaz Gerads (Jr., Blaine, MN) coming off from the penalty kill. The Johnies didn't let Bethel's retaliation deter them as they drove another puck past Zac Bush (So., Tyler, TX) just 18 seconds later. The Royals went into the locker room down 2-1.
The 2nd period marked the general decline of the game as the referees squeezed the physical competition from the players. With 6 penalties being called for each team, the Royals battled hard, but St. Johns scored again putting the Johnies up 3-1.
Just 15 seconds into the 3rd period Christian Fogerty (Sr., Forest Lake, MN) was given a game misconduct for contact to the head when he had possession of the puck and was driving hard into the offensive zone. St. John's gained a 5 – 3 man advantage and though the series of penalties was able to take control of the game and tire the Royals out. The Johnies scored once more and kept the Royals from using their offensive skills and their well-known speed of play.
In an event that felt as though the Royals were not only playing against St. John's but the officiating staff as well, they go into the second week of conference play with a record of 1-1-0. Join Bethel University as they support the Men's Hockey team at 7 p.m. in the Bethel University Arena.
