ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Royals traveled to Hamline University to try and maintain their second place standing in the MIAC against the Pipers of Hamline University. Unfortunately, the Royals were unable to emerge victorious, falling 4-0.
The Pipers, who move to 9-2-3 (4-0-1 MIAC) with the win, produced the only offense on the night. With a goal eleven seconds into the first period by Spencer Anderson, the Pipers seemed determined to overtake the Royals for second place in the conference. Another first period goal three minutes later put the game seemingly out of reach. The Pipers later added goals in the second and third periods on the way to the final of 4-0.
Chris Berenguer led the Piper attack with a goal and two assists on the night. Kyle Mattson and Ryan Kupperman rounded out the goal scoring, and Kyle Kurr added two assists. Beau Christian kept the puck out of the home net, stopping all 16 Royal shots.
The Royal offense struggled to produce tonight, getting outshot nearly two to one on the game.
Austin Hatch (So., Cloquet, Minn.) led the Royals with three shots, while
Jack Paul (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.),
Jake Kogler (So., Forest Lake, Minn.), and
Chaz Gerads (So., Blaine, Minn.) tallied two shots each.
Aaron Damjanovich (Sr., Remer, Minn.) stopped 27 of the 31 shots he faced.
The loss drops Bethel to 6-10 overall and 4-3 in the MIAC. Tomorrow night the Royals will look to rebound as they square off again against the Pipers again. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. at Bethel University Arena at the Schwan's Super Rink in Blaine, Minn.
