Bethel Earns Third Consecutive Shutout With 2-0 Win Over Northwestern

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - A beautiful Labor Day provided no rest for the Bethel Royals as they took the field today against the Northwestern Eagles. The Royals continued their dominating play en route to a 2-0 victory over the visiting Eagles. The Royals controlled the game from start to finish, outshooting their opponents 33 to 11 and earning 17 corner kicks.

At the 23rd minute, the Royals got onto the scoreboard when Brittany Griffore (So., Maple Grove, Minn.)  put Bethel out in front 1-0 on a cross pass from Michelle Hentges (Fr., Andover, Minn.). The score would

remain the same heading into halftime despite the Royals outshooting the Eagles 22-3.

The Royals added their second and final goal at the 47:57 mark of the second half when Lydia Bergeson (Fr., Mauston, Wis.) netted her fifth goal of the season on a pass from Anne Fazio (Fr., Holland, Mich.). Bergeson is second on the team with 11 points on five goals and an assist, while Fazio isn't too far behind her with eight points on two goals and four assists.

Kiersten Hansen (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) anchored the Royals in goal, making all 5 saves that were asked of her as she earned her second consecutive shutout.

The Royals now improve to 3-0, while the Eagles fall to 0-2. The Royals are scheduled to be back in action this Wednesday, September 9, as they host Martin Luther College at 3 p.m.
