Wartburg Box Score | Saint Mary's Box Score

INDIANOLA, Iowa - It was a tough day for the Bethel Royals as they played the first match of the day in the morning and then had to wait around to play the last match of the day in the afternoon. Unfortunately, in both matches, they were unable to emerge victorious.

Against Wartburg, three Royals scored double digit points, led by Nicole Wriedt (So., Pewaukee, Wis.) and Kelly Otto (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.), who each had 14.5 points. Amy Werner (Fr., Three Lakes, Wis.) earned 11 points on eight kills, two solo blocks, and two block assists. Betsy Naatjes (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) helped the effort with 42 out of Bethel's 46 assists.

Each of the sets were decided by seven points or less, with Wartburg taking the first two, 25-18 and 26-24, before Bethel bounced back with a 25-20 win to send the match to a fourth set. However, Wartburg finished off the Royals with a 25-19 win. Despite notching two more kills than Wartburg, the Royals committed several more errors than their opponent, not only on attacks, but on serves and receptions as well. Jane Ohde led Wartburg with 16.5 points on 10 kills, four service aces, two solo blocks, and a block assist.

Bethel finished the tournament by facing conference opponent, Saint Mary's, but did not fare as well as they had against Augsburg earlier in the tournament. The Cardinals won in three straight sets, 25-15, 25-17, and 25-21. Wriedt was once again Bethel's top scorer with 10.5 points on 10 kills and a block assist.

The losses set Bethel back to 5-6 overall. The Royals return home to take on Saint Benedict on Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. for their next scheduled match.
