MOORHEAD, Minn. - Kelly Otto (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) had 12 points on nine kills, two solo blocks and two block assists, but the Bethel University Royals fell short in their first conference match at Concordia College, 3-1.

In the first set, the Cobbers led from 5-4 on, but the Royals made a run, getting within two points before Corcordia came away with the win, 25-22. Bethel was unable to gain a lead in the second set, dropping it 25-16 and looking like they were up for a possible sweep. The third set began where the second had left off, with the Royals falling behind 7-3, but the women insured that the Cobbers would not get away easily. In a set that included 10 ties, and down 26-25, Bethel was able to save the match by scoring three consecutive points to win 28-26. The Royals hung tough again in the fourth set, but could not come up with the win, yielding 25-18.

Nicole Wriedt (So., Pewaukee, Wis.) led Bethel with 11 kills. Haley Toter (So., Park Ridge, Ill.) contributed five service aces, four kills and 11 digs. Betsy Naatjes (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) had 32 of the Royals' 42 assists along with two aces of her own.

Jenna Green led Concordia with 16 kills, while Amy Secora had 31 of the team's 56 assists.

Bethel falls to 4-3 (0-1) on the season, while the Cobbers improve their record to 5-4 (1-0). Next up for the Royals is a trip to Indianola, Iowa, to participate in the Simpson Invitational. Their first match begins at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, with the tournament wrapping up Saturday night.
