ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - It was the Royals verses the Falcons today in a non-conference match-up between Bethel University and UW-River Falls, Wis. Though they ultimately came out on the losing end, the Bethel women battled well against their opponent, and finished with a score of 4-5.
It was clear from the start of the doubles matches that this contest was going to be a challenge for both teams. The Royals made the Falcons work for every point they scored, and the work paid off for one Royal pair - Heather Blair (Jr., Glenwood, Minn.) and
Ashley Dohlen (Jr., Morris, Minn.) finished their match in a 9-8, 7-5 decision. And though the other two duos fell to their opponents, they didn't die easily, and each ended 8-6.
Singles was a different story for Bethel, and they finished with four of six victories. At the top of the ladder was
Kristin Kishaba (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis.) who played the number one spot and forced her match into a tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets. After a rocky first round, she turned the tide for the remainder of the match, and in the end came away with a victory, 0-6, 6-3, 10-6. Other singles winners include Blair, 6-1, 2-6, 10-7, Dohlen, 6-0, 6-1, and
Stefanie Erlander (So., Excelsior, Minn.) 6-4, 6-3.
Next, the Royals look to another home match against Macalester on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. They hope to improve upon their 1-8 overall and 0-4 MIAC record.
