MINNEAPOLIS - Today was a day of tiebreakers when Bethel women's tennis took on the College of St. Catherine. Four of of the eight matches were decided by additional sets, and the Royals came out on top of half of them. The women proved they have the perseverance to go the distance, but in the end, the team fell 7-2 against the Wildcats.
Competing against St. Catherine's number one singles player was Kristin Kishaba (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis.). Playing so high up in the rankings has made for a lot of challenging tennis throughout the year, and Kishaba has lost some heartbreaking matches because of it. Today, however, the tables were turned, and it was Kishaba who came out on the winning end of a tiebreaker set. She defeated her opponent 7-5, 2-6, 13-11 in one of the most exciting matches Bethel has seen this year.
Kishaba was also part of the doubles pair that ended with the closest score. She and partner LeRoyce Chapman (Sr., Elk River, Minn.) were forced into a tiebreaker as well, but this time the Royals couldn't pull it off, and they ended up losing 9-8.
The other victor from the Royals was Stefanie Erlander (So., Excelsior, Minn.). She won her match in yet another tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-1, 10-5.
Bethel is now looking at a 1-11 overall and 0-7 conference record. The Wildcats sit at 1-7 in the MIAC and 6-10 overall. The Royals will be traveling for their next match, which is scheduled to be held on Friday at 5 p.m. in St. Joseph, Minn. when they will take on the College of Saint Benedict.
