ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Bethel had their hands full today when they took on Macalester - a team currently tied for third in the MIAC. Though the fans couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to watch tennis - the Royals weren't able to enjoy it as much as they wanted to, as they fell to the Scots 7-2.
The beginning started off well for many doubles partners. Number one pair
Kristin Kishaba (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis.) and
LeRoyce Chapman (Sr., Elk River, Minn.) began their match with apparent ease - they returned everything their opponents hit at them. But after somewhat of a honeymoon start for the two, the Scot pair turned their game around and were able to regain every point they had given up. Kishaba and Chapman fell, 4-8.
There was a happier ending in store, however, for number two doubles, Heather Blair (Jr., Glenwood, Minn.) and
Ashley Dohlen (Jr., Morris, Minn.). The pair rallied well with their competitors, ultimately overcoming them with quick reflexes and strong determination. They were the only duo to claim a victory in doubles today, and they finished at 8-4.
For the second match in a row, Blair was not only part of Bethel's lone doubles win, she also boasts the only singles success. Blair came out on the winning end of a 6-2, 7-6 decision.
With the loss, Bethel drops to 1-9 overall and 0-5 in conference, while Macalester continues on in their 10 game winning-streak. If the weather continues to hold as it has been, the Royals will play their next match on Saturday at 10 a.m. against the Gusties of Gustavus at the Ona Orth Complex.
