Box Score

FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Bethel Royals have scored 46 runs in their last three games against collegiate opponents - 22 of them came in today's game against Lakeland College. The Royals jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first half inning and never looked back, giving starting pitcher Travis Adams (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn.) all he would need for his first victory of the season.

Tim Churchill (Jr., Mt. Prospect, Ill.) led off the game with a single, stole second, and came around to score on a single by Tim Oesterlin (Jr., Rochester, Minn.). From that point on, the Royals continued to manufacture runs as though there were a shortage, all the while keeping the Muskies bats silent.

Adams gave up two runs on three hits in six innings of work. He struck out three and did not issue any free passes, and in the bottom of the fifth inning, the lefthander needed just four pitches to retire the side. Adams even helped his own cause with an RBI in the top of the sixth inning, knocking in Erik Anderson (So., Arden Hills, Minn.).

Everyone in the Royals starting lineup earned at least one hit except Mark Therrien (Jr., Spring Lake Park, Minn.). However, Therrien did reach base three times due to walks and scored four runs while batting in two others. First baseman Bob Tokar (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) was a perfect 4-for-4, including a pair of doubles, with four RBIs and three runs scored. Oesterlin went 4-for-5 with a double and four runs scored in addition to batting in two others. Churchill was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, and Kirk Darling (So., Kalamazoo, Mich.) was Bethel's fourth batter with a multi-hit game as he was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored.

With the win, Bethel improves to 5-5 on the season, while Lakeland drops to 1-6. The Royals are scheduled to take on Division II opponent Southwest Minnesota State University from Marshall, Minn., in a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon beginning at 2 p.m. Eastern time for their next games.
