Mason Swenson (So., Eagan, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal for the Royals at 3:31 in overtime, defeating the Concordia Cobbers, 2-1.
The Royals, trying to rebound from the previous night's 4-1 loss, took a 1-0 lead near the end of the second period on a goal by
Steffen Hansen (Fr., Blaine, Minn.), assisted by
Jake Irey (Fr., Waterloo, Iowa). The goal was Hansen's first as a Royal. The Cobbers would strike back with a minute left in the period, tying the game at 1-1 going into the second intermission.
Both defenses tightened up in the third period and the game would remain at 1-1, leading to overtime. In the extra period, the Cobbers committed an interference penalty at 2:46. With the extra man advantage the Royals capitalized, with Swenson ending the game, with the assists going to
Jon Crouse (Fr., Alexandria, Minn.) and Tom Menozzi (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.).
Jack Paul (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.) led Bethel with six shots and
Aaron Damjanovich (Sr., Remar, Minn.) made 22 saves in the victory. Aaron Wheeler led Concordia with four shots.
After the win, the Royals improve to 4-7 (4-2) and the Cobbers drop to 3-8-2 (2-2-2). Bethel now has a month to prepare for their next game, which is scheduled to be against Northland College. The game will be played on Monday, January 4, at home starting at 7 p.m.
