Box Score
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Another day of rain and sloppy conditions could not slow down the Royals as they defeated the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons, 2-1.
Bethel had three shots and missed a penalty kick before
Breanna Posey (Sr., Champlin, Minn.) found the back of the net in the 24th minute, assisted by
Leah Hardie (So., Ankeny, Iowa). The goal was her first of the season and the assist was Hardie's sixth of the year. The score remained 1-0 until the 55th minute, when
Krista Polding (Jr., Waconia, Minn.) put the Royals up 2-0, her fourth goal this year, on an assist from
Lydia Bergeson (Fr., Mauston, Wis.). The assist gives Bergeson 21 points thus far in her first season at Bethel.
The Falcons ruined
Alyssa Riggs's (Jr., Columbia Heights, Minn.) bid for a shut out in the 67th minute, when Cassie Stang scored an unassisted goal, putting the game within reach at 2-1. However, the Royals defense and Riggs locked down the UW-River Falls offense for the remainder of the game, sending the Falcons home with the loss.
Riggs made seven saves in the game, while Polding led the Royals with two shots on goal and Posey took three total shots, one on goal. Eryn Lansverk put four of her five shots on goal to lead the Falcons, while Stang managed three shots, two on goal.
After the victory, the Bethel Royals are now 8-3-1 overall and UW-River Falls drops to 6-6-1. Next up for the women is a trip down to Northfield, Minn., to face the Carleton College Knights this Friday, starting at 4 p.m.
