ST. PAUL, Minn. - Going up against a tough opponent and terrible field conditions, the Bethel Royals were held scoreless, falling 3-0 to the Macalester College Scots.

It was a trying offensive night for the Royals, as they could muster just three shots on goal out of the 13 total shots taken. The Scots scored their first goal in the 33rd minute when Emily Bardwell put in a deflection for her first goal of the season, assisted by Maddy Cochrane. The score remained 1-0 through halftime, but in the 50th minute, Macalester's Lauryn Gutierrez found the back of the net from ten yards away, her fourth goal on the year, with the assist going to Emily Humphreys. The third and final goal was scored on free kick by Maddie Mette in the 65th minute. For the game, the Royals were out shot 16-13, eight and three on goal, respectively. Bethel garnered six corner kicks to the Scots three, while each team received one yellow card.

Kelsey Flaherty (Fr., Shoreview, Minn.) led the Royals with five shots, two on goal, and Kelsey Holmberg (Fr., Cambridge, Minn.) had the only other shot on goal. Bardwell led Macalester with five shots and three on target.

Bethel is now 7-3-1 (1-3-1) and the Scots are 7-2-2 (3-1-1). The Royals have the weekend off before hosting the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Tuesday, beginning at 4 p.m., at the Ona Orth Complex.
