BOX SCORE

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.
- Trailing at the half, the Royals fought back with two unanswered goals, defeating the Augsburg College Auggies, 2-1.

It took 43 minutes before either team got on the board, and it was Augsburg who struck first, with Lacey Hoover putting the Auggies up 1-0 just before halftime, assisted by Bri Dorale and Kelsey Sorensen. The goal was scored off a cross into a jumbled mess, with Hoover being able to take a shot, getting her sixth goal of the season.

The halftime adjustments must have worked, because Bethel came out and scored twice in the first 15 minutes of the second half. The first goal came in the 55th minute on a give-and-go between Brittany Griffore (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) and Kelsey Flaherty (Fr., Shoreview, Minn.), with Flaherty netting the goal from 15 yards away. It was her second goal of the season and Griffore's sixth assist. Only two minutes later, at 57:49, Leah Hardie (So., Ankeny, Iowa) scored when she put a rebound past the Auggie goalie, the assist going to Breanna Posey (Sr., Champlin, Minn.).The goal was Hardie's eighth and the assist was Posey's fifth this year.

The goal would prove to be the game-winner, but the Auggies spoiled a chance to tie the game in the 67th minute, missing a penalty kick wide. From there, Alyssa Riggs (Jr., Columbia Heights, Minn.) and the Royal defense stood tall and came away with the victory.

For the game, Bethel took 10 shots, eight of them on goal, and Augsburg attempted 20 shots, but put just eight of them on goal. Flaherty and Griffore led Bethel with three shots each, while Riggs made seven saves. Hoover led Augsburg with 11 shots, five of them on goal.

After the win, the Royals improve to 9-4-1 (2-4-1) and the Auggies fall to 3-6-4 (1-5-1). Next up for Bethel is a home game this Saturday against the College of Saint Benedict. The start time is 1 p.m. at the Ona Orth Complex.
