Box Score
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bethel Royals ran their undefeated streak to four games with a 5-2 win over the hosting Hamline Pipers tonight at Drake Arena. Bethel used a diverse scoring attack, getting their five goals from five different skaters, including
Kassy Sullivan (So., Roseville, Minn.), who scored in her third consecutive game.
Bethel fell behind 1-0 at 10:34 into the first period, but bounced back to even the score at 11:19 into the second period on a power play thanks to
Olivia Paulseth (Fr., Duluth, Minn.).
Bethany Murphy-Aultman (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) earned the assist on the goal, inching her closer to the career 100-point mark.
About a minute later, Bethel took its first lead of the night when
Paige Lemieux (Fr., Fargo, N.D.) found the back of the net with the help of
Allison Papko (So., Winnepeg, Manitoba). However, the Pipers came right back and tied the game at 2-2 with just under five minutes to play in the middle period. It would be all they would get, though, as
Beth Spurrier (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) shut the door and did not allow another goal for the remaining 24:37 of game time. Spurrier recorded 11 saves on the night as Bethel held a better than 3-to-1 advantage in the shots on goal category.
Before the second period was out, Bethel took back the lead for good on
Sandra Felten's (Sr., Cashton, Wis.) fifth goal of the season, assisted by
Rachael Geng (Fr., So. St. Paul, Minn.) and
Anna Carlson (Fr., Roseville, Minn.). Despite not having a goal to her name, Carlson is among the top two freshman point scorers in the MIAC.
The Royals added a pair of insurance goals in the third period to give them their third game with five or more goals in their last four contests. Sullivan scored as a result of her connection with Papko, and
Kelsea Martalock (So., Tomah, Wis.) scored her first goal of the season after Murphy-Aultman and Paulseth fed her the puck, helping Bethel capitalize on their third power play of the evening. The assist gave Murphy-Aultman two points on the night and 98 points in her career.
The win boosts Bethel's record to 6-6-3 overall and 5-2-2 in the MIAC, which is currently good for a tie for third place. Hamline, the team that ousted Bethel from the conference playoffs last season, falls to 6-9-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the conference. The same two teams are scheduled to face off against each other tomorrow afternoon beginning at 3 p.m. at Bethel University Arena in Blaine, Minn.
