MOORHEAD, Minn. - After falling behind 1-0 in the first two minutes of tonight's game, the Bethel Royals came storming back and proceeded to rattle off four unanswered goal on their way to a 5-3 win over the Concordia Cobbers.
Rachael Geng (Fr., So. St. Paul, Minn.) pulled the Royals even at 1-1 at the 13:42 mark of the second period when she scored a power play goal with the help of
Anna Carlson (Fr., Roseville, Minn.). Just over four minutes later,
Jenna Bullock (Jr., Buffalo, Minn.) put Bethel up 2-1 with an unassisted shorthanded goal, her first goal of the season.
Kassy Sullivan (So., Roseville, Minn.) was the next Royal to find the back of the net when she scored at 6:46 into the third period, unassisted. Less than a minute and a half later, Bullock earned an assist when she helped
Anna Baumgarten (Sr., Elmhurst, Ill.) score her second goal of the season.
Down, but not out, Concordia cut their deficit to one with two goals in less than five minutes. But that would be all they got thanks to strong defensive play and goaltending by
Beth Spurrier (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.), who recorded 26 saves on the night.
Bullock added an empty net goal with 36 second remaining to seal the victory, elevating Bethel's overall record to 5-6-2 and their conference record to 4-2-1. Meanwhile, Concordia falls to 8-5-1 overall and 5-2 in the MIAC. The same two teams are scheduled to face off against each other beginning at 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon in Moorhead to complete the series.
