Madson's 39 lifts Royals past Macalester in high scoring affair, 105-96

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.- In a game with over 200 total points scored, the Royals were able to shoot a little better en route to a 105-96 win over the Scots from Macalaster. Bethel , down by three at half, out-shot Macalaster 52% to 30% in the second half to build a nine point lead to seal the win. Macalaster's nemesis was their three point shooting, which was good at times, but eventually led to disaster as they shot 14-41 from behind the arc.

Bethel's Tim Madson was lights out all night, going 13-19 from field goal range, netting him 39 points. He was also 5-7 from three point range, and was 8-10 from the free throw line. The Royals also got another boost from their lock-down defender Steve Strom, who scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to complete a double-double. Cory Laugen also had a big night, putting in 14 points on just nine shots along with five rebounds. Center Mike Moberg helped in the winning cause scoring 12 points to go with nine boards and six assists, while Jeff Reck had a huge night off the bench with his 12 point, five rebound performance.

For the Scots, it was guard Abe Woldeslassie that had a big night of 24 points, nine assists and three steals as teammate Brad Liddell added a team high 28 points while also adding four assists and three rebounds before fouling out. Lars Johnson and Tom Conboy also put up good numbers, with Johnson scoring 18 points and Conboy netting 16 points and pulling down 11 boards. In all, the Scots starting five carried the team scoring 86 of the teams 96 total points.

With the win, the Royals are now 17-6 overall and 12-6 in conference play moving them into sole possesion of third place while locking up a home game in the first round of the MIAC playoffs. Macalaster is now 6-12 in the MIAC and 9-14 overall. The Royals next game is this Wednesday, at home against St. Mary's. Tip off is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.
