"Herbie" has led the Bethel Royals women's basketball program to new heights in his tenure, something he has done at each institution he has coached at. Entering his 24th season at Bethel in 2025-26, he has led the women's basketball program to NCAA Tournament appearances in 2015, 2020 and 2025 as well as the program's first MIAC championship in 2020.

• Led NCAA Division III in 3-point field goal percentage both in 2016-17 (37.9%) and in 2004-05 (40.6%)
• Finished fourth nationally in 3-point field goal percentage (39.5%) in 2017-18
• Finished third nationally in steals per game in both 2018-19 (16.2) and 2019-20 (17.8)
• Finished fourth in all of NCAA Division III in turnovers forced (26.93) in 2018-19 and fifth in 2019-20 (27.21)
• Set an NCAA record for largest turnaround in conference play in 2013-14, winning 12 more MIAC games than the year before
 • WBCA Team Academic rankings in 2019-20: T6th (3.755), 2018-19: 6th (3.685), 2017-18: 4th (3.689), 2016-17: 13th (3.552), 2015-16: 7th (3.584)
• Inducted into Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association (MGBCA) Hall of Fame in 2022

• Named Female Sports Coach of the Year by Cedar Rapids Post-Gazette in 2000
• Tied school record for most conference wins and advanced to program's first post season competition at Sioux Falls
• Coached two All-American Scholar Athletes at USF
• Coached USF's first female athlete to be named First Team All-American
• 1996-97 South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference (SDIC) Coach of the Year
