The 2014-15 Royals broke a 17-season hiatus from the NCAA Tournament earning an at-large bid to the big dance. It was the first time for head coach Jon Herbrechtsmeyer, then in his 13th season, to take the Royals into the field of 64 teams. Finishing 21-7 on the year, BU would record the most wins in a season since 1995-96. Little did they know at the time that they would be one of four 20-plus win seasons over the next six seasons as well as recording back-to-back 20-win seasons following a 20-7 mark in 2013-14.

For the first time since 1996, Bethel and the Robertson Center played host to the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championships. While it didn't see the No. 6th-ranked Royals come out on top of a close battle, the 2019-20 season was one that won't soon be forgotten. BU concluded the season with a program-best 26 wins and a .929 winning percentage with a 26-2 mark.

The season brought six new single-season team records, including a 20-game winning streak which hadn't been done since the 1993-94 season. Individually, senior Taite Anderson became the program's single-season scoring leader (554 points), second all-time leading scorer (1,697 points), first-ever First Team WBCA All-American and first-ever D3hoops.com All-American being named to the second team.
