Transfer Students

TRANSFERRING TO BETHEL UNIVERSITY

Step 1: What type of institution are you at currently?

2-Year: You do NOT need permission to contact a Bethel University coach
DIII: You need to send "Permission to Contact Self-Release Form" to gretchen-hunt@bethel.edu before you are able to speak with a Bethel University coach
DI, DII, NAIA: You must be granted permission from your current Athletic Department to speak with any Bethel University athletic department staff member.

Step 2: Determine your transfer status.

In general, transfers to Division III institutions must complete one academic "Year in Residence" before participating in intercollegiate athletics, UNLESS one of the following exemptions is met. If you meet one of the exceptions below, you could be immediately eligible for practice and competition.

2-Year Transfer Exceptions

The student has not practiced or competed in intercollegiate athletics
If you've never been enrolled at a 4-year and you leave the 2-year academically and athletically eligible.
Student transfers from a 4-year to a 2-year and then to Bethel, provided that the student would have been athletically and academically eligible, at the time of the transfer, had he/she remained at the previous 4-year OR he/she successfully completed 24- semester hours of degree transferrable credit AND spent at least two full-time terms/3 quarters at the 2-year.
The student transfers to Bethel, and for a consecutive 2-year period immediately before, the student has neither practiced nor competed in intercollegiate athletics and has neither practiced nor competed in organized non-collegiate amateur competition.

4-Year Transfer Exceptions

The student has not previously used a season of participation at a DIII and has never practiced or competed in intercollegiate athletics at a non-DIII.
If the student transfers from a 4-year and would have been academically and athletically eligible has they stayed at the previous institution.
Student transfers from a 4-year that did not sponsor the athlete's sport and while there, completed 24-semester hours of degree transferrable credit AND completed at least two full-time terms/3 quarters.
The student transfers to Bethel and for a consecutive 2-year period immediately before, the student has neither practiced nor competed in intercollegiate athletics and has neither practiced nor competed in organized non-collegiate amateur competition.

Step 3: Have you met Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (MIAC) normal progress requirements?

For those transferring from another MIAC institution, you must have earned 24 credit hours over your most recent two full-time terms at your previous institution. Any courses taken during summer terms or during part-time terms subsequent to your most recent two full-time terms may be included in your attempt to reach 24 credits.

Step 4: Apply to Bethel University

Complete an application.

*** Make sure you send UPDATED transcripts from all previous institutions. Updated transcripts are needed from all previous colleges/universities before you will be allowed to compete.

Step 5: Attend the student-athlete NCAA and Medical Eligibility meeting on the date communicated by your head coach.
