SAINT PAUL, MINN.—Bethel University junior first baseman Sam Abbas was named May 4 MIAC Baseball Player of the Week. The Royals now have three MIAC Athletes of the Week in 2026.
May 4 MIAC Baseball Athletes of the Week
Player: Sam Abbas (Bethel)
Pitcher: Max Edwards (Saint John's)
Abbas finished BU's 3-1Â week going 8-of-16 (.500) at the plate with seven runs scored, 10 RBI, two doubles, and three home runs. The Andover, Minnesota native went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run, and one double in a 10-3 victory over Concordia (Minn.) in game two on April 28. Abbas was 3-for-5 with one home run, one double, and one hit by pitch in a 17-9 win over Saint John's in game two before he went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, and one sacrifice fly in a 10-9 loss in game one.
Through 37 starts at first base, Abbas has a .333 (46-of-138) with 12 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs, 14 walks, and a .696 slugging percentage.
The Royals will open with Saint Mary's (Minn.) in game one of the 2026 MIAC Baseball Playoffs at CHS Field on Thursday, April 7 at 2:30 p.m.
