ST. JOSEPH, MINN.—The Bethel University softball team dropped a pair of games at Saint Benedict by scores of 6-3, and 8-6.
The Royals fall to 7-15, 2-2 MIAC, while the Bennies improve to 13-9, 3-1 MIAC.
Saint Benedict 6, Bethel 3 (Game One)
Bethel took a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning, where Saint Benedict scored four runs that culminated in Olivia Tautges's two-out, three-run home run that sealed them a 6-3 victory. Also hitting a home run for the Bennies was Lauren Freeberg, who gave the Bennies a 1-0 lead with a first-inning solo home run.
Bethel finished with seven hits. Mandalyn Franks finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, and one run scored. Five other Royals recorded a hit.
Mary Hajduk surrendered 12 hits, six runs, and two walks in the complete-game pitching loss for Bethel. Saint Benedict's Ellie Peterson allowed seven hits, three runs, four walks, and notched four strikeouts in the circle.
Saint Benedict 8, Bethel 6 (Game Two)
The Royals had the upper hand in hits by a 12-9 margin, but a three-run home run from Alyssa Downpour in the third inning, and two-run home run from Izzy Radel in the sixth inning propelled the Bennies to an 8-6 victory.
Camryn Thurow finished 4-for-4 with one run scored for the Royals, while Mandalyn Franks was 2-for-3 with one run scored. Brianna Tix and Julie Helget each recorded one double for Bethel. Sidney Bartels was 1-for-2 with two walks.
Dominique Walicke and Abby Otterness combined to allow nine hits, eight runs, four walks, and notch three strikeouts on the pitching rubber for the Royals.
Olivia Wallace and Kaitlyn Pink combined for 12 hits, six runs, four walks, and two strikeouts in the circle for the Bennies.
The Royals will host St. Olaf (DH) at Ona Orth on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m.
