ARDEN HILLS, MINN.—The No. 24 Bethel University women's basketball team had the upper hand in shooting by a .428 (20-of-47) - .389 (21-of-54) margin, but their 23 turnovers proved costly in a 59-53 loss to Hamline at Robertson Center Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
The Royals fall to 16-6, 11-4 MIAC, while the Pipers improve to 16-6, 10-5 MIAC.
Hamline 59, Bethel 53
All seven of the game's lead changes occurred in a first half that saw Bethel lead 11-10 after the first quarter, and Hamline take the driver's seat for good off Evelyn Wiltrout's layup that made the score 25-24 with 2:45 left in the second quarter. That layup kickstarted their 7-0 to close the frame, capped by Emma Lamppa's three-pointer with 00:08 left that gave Hamline a 30-24 halftime lead.
The Royals managed to cut their deficit to one point on one occasion courtesy of Alli Born's layup that got them within Hamline 51-50 with 3:48 left in the contest. The remaining 10 points scored between both teams in the contest came from the free throw line. Seven of them came from the Pipers, which iced them a 59-53 victory.
Emily Erickson had 12 points, followed by 10 points and five rebounds off the bench from Elly Schmitz. Cally Peterson rounded out the double figure Royals with 10 points, five assists, three blocks, and two steals. All over the stat sheet was Alli Born, who had a team-leading seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals to go with seven points.
Anna Rynkiewich had a double double 14 points and 12 rebounds for Hamline.
Bethel will travel to Carleton on Saturday, February 14 for a 1 p.m. game.
