ST. PETER, MINN.—The No. 19 Bethel University women's basketball team dropped a 78-68 decision at Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday afternoon.
The Royals' first MIAC loss of the season brings them to 8-3, 3-1 MIAC, while the Gusties improve to 6-5, 2-2 MIAC.
Gustavus 78, Bethel 68
The second half saw Bethel have the upper hand in scoring 47-43, but Gustavus's 35-21 advantage over the opening 20:00 was too much to overcome in a 78-68 final score.Â
Rosalie Penke paced the Royals with 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe off the bench. Emily Erickson followed with 12 points, while Colette Duininck had a team-leading three steals as well as eight points. Macey Littlefield also had eight points for a Bethel squad that shot 21-of-44 (.477) from the field and 20-of-23 (.870) from the free throw line.
The Gusties finished 27-of-53 (.509) from the field, led by Kaitlyn Schaefer's 23 points on a 7-of-9 shooting mark. Ella Peters added 22 points, seven rebounds, and two assists for Gustavus.
The Royals will host Saint Mary's (Minn.) at Robertson Center Gymnasium on Wednesday, January 7 at 5:30 p.m.
