Royals Rally Late But Can’t Complete Comeback Falling to Gusties, 11-9

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — The Bethel University baseball team saw its season come to an end Saturday afternoon, after falling 11-9 in the MIAC Championship to Gustavus. The Royals fell behind 11-3 in the seventh before rallying for three in the eighth. Cutting the deficit to two on a Zach Thompson RBI double to right with two outs in the ninth. 

The Royals finish the 2025 season with a record of 30-13 and 15-5 in MIAC play. 

The Gusties struck first plating two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead. 

Carson Christiansen got the Royals on the board in the second, shooting an RBI single through the right side of the infield. Joe Meurer tied the game at two with a sac fly to center. 

A three-run homer to straight away left put the Gusties ahead 5-3 in the fourth. Adding on four in the fifth and two in the seventh to take a 11-3 lead.

Call later in the inning made it an 11-6 ballgame. 

With two on and two out in the ninth Zach Thompson lined a double just inside the right field line bringing home one run to make it 11-8. 

The Royals loaded the bases with two outs, bringing the tying run to the plate. Matt Friesen scored on a wild pitch to make it a two-run game, but the Royals couldn't complete the comeback falling 11-9.
