MINNEAPOLIS — The Bethel University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Tuesday afternoon at U.S Bank Stadium.
The Royals fell behind 4-1 in game one, before putting together a four run top of the fourth thanks to a 3 RBI double by
Oran Hinkle. The Blugolds pushed across runs in the fifth and sixth to win 7-5.
In game two the Blugolds took a 4-2 lead in the fifth, the Royals responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning on a fielder's choice. Going on to lose 5-3.
Game one:
Bethel got on the board first after an
Oran Hinkle triple to centerfield, later scoring on an error by the Blugold third baseman.
Eau Claire responded with two runs in the bottom of the first. A pair of homers in the third gave the Blugolds a 5-1 lead.
The Royals rallied for four runs in the top of the fourth, after a
Chris Lavin RBI single to left and an
Oran Hinkle 3 RBI double tied the game at five.
RBI singles in the fifth and sixth gave the Blugolds a two run advantage as the Royals dropped game one 7-5.
Game two:
Eau Claire pushed across two in the top of the first and the Royals responded in the bottom half of the inning. A
Jordan Krupke single to center to center and a
Carson Christiansen single down the right field line tied it a two.
In the top of the fifth Eau Claire grabbed a 4-2 lead on a two RBI triple in the right center gap.
In the bottom half of the inning
Zach Thompson reached on a fielder's choice, allowing
Matt Friesen to score from third to make it a 4-3 ballgame.
Eau Claire added an insurance run in the sixth, going on to win 5-3.

The Royals now head to Florida for their spring break trip, taking on Aurora University on Friday Mar. 7 in Winter Haven. First pitch is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. EST.
