Royals Take Nail Bitter from Saints, 5-4

VIRGINIA, Minn. – The Bethel University men's tennis team got back in the win column, taking a tightly contested 5-4 victory over St. Scholastica Saturday evening.
 
A win by Carter Sherad at No. 1 singles, his fourth in a row, in a three-set tiebreaker (6-3, 4-6, 10-5) evened the match at 3-3. CSS won at No. 3 singles to go back up before Watson Sheard won at No. 4 (6-2, 6-2) followed by Zach Bengtson at No. 6 (6-2, 6-3) to clinch the victory.
 
The Saints took two of the three doubles matches to go up 2-1. Robert Seaton and Zach Bengtson won at No. 3 doubles 8-6.
 
Ryan Reid picked up a point for BU winning his No. 5 doubles match in a third-set tiebreaker. He cruised in the opening set 6-2 before falling in the second 4-6. He'd win the third 10-7.
 
Bethel, which has won six of its last seven, improves to 10-4 on the year and 3-0 in MIAC play.
 
UP NEXT
The Royals head to Collegeville on Saturday, March 29, taking on Saint John's at 3 p.m.
