NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team closed out the regular season with a 3-2 loss at St. Olaf Saturday evening.
The Royals enter the postseason with a 13-9-3 overall record and 9-5-2 mark in the MIAC. Bethel earned 29 points in the standings and the No. 2 seed in the MIAC Playoffs where they will host No. 3-seeded St. Olaf in a semifinal matchup on Saturday, March 1.
St. Olaf struck first scoring on the power play 7:16 into the first. The Oles held a 11-9 edge on shots while BU couldn't light up the lamp on its three power-play opportunities in the opening period.
Max Hamstad tallied his second goal of the year with 2:33 left in the second, deadlocking the two squad at one each after two periods.
Bethel went up 2-1 as
Tyler Braccini tallied his conference-leading 18th goal of the year on BU's fifth and final power play opportunity 7:15 into the third.
The Oles tallied a pair of goals just 20 seconds apart with under 12 minutes to go.
With an empty net, the Royals peppered the St. Olaf netminder who made three saves in the final 30 seconds.
