SUPERIOR, Wis. — Bethel Royals men's hockey fell 2–3 to UW–Superior Yellowjackets on Saturday night despite a strong third‑period push and a 32‑33 shot advantage.
After a scoreless first period, highlighted by 15 saves from Marco Duronio, the Yellowjackets struck twice in 14 seconds early in the second to take a 2‑0 lead. Superior regained a two‑goal lead early in the third on a goal by Blake Setter, but Bethel dominated much of the final period, outshooting the Yellowjackets 15‑9. With the extra skater on, Joe Westlund scored at 16:59 for his second goal of the season, assisted by Tyler Braccini and Spencer Kring, making it 3‑2. Bethel pressed with multiple empty‑net opportunities in the final minutes, but superior goaltending closed the door.
Duronio finished with 30 stops, keeping the Royals within striking distance all night. Bethel went 0‑for‑3 on the power play but held Superior scoreless on three chances. Logan Anderson and Westlund scored, while Peyton Blair, Braccini, Kring and Westlund recorded assists.
The Royals (2–3–0) return home for their next game at National Sports Center against Hamline Pipers on Friday, November 21 at 7 p.m. in a conference matchup. It's a key opportunity to rebound and build momentum as MIAC play begins.
