LA CROSSE, Wisc. – The Bethel University baseball team's season came to an end Saturday afternoon dropping a win-or-go-home elimination game to N0. 19 Benedictine University 12-4.
How it happened:
The Royals got on the board first on a
Xavier Lortie RBI double to right in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the third the Eagles plated four runs on five hits to take a 4-1 advantage. Adding on three more runs on three hits in the fourth to make it a 7-1 ballgame.
Bethel answered in the bottom half of the fourth, with back-to-back bombs, the first coming off the bat of
Ty Koehn, a two-run shot, followed by a
Nolan Jurgenson solo homer to cut the deficit to 7-4.
Jordan Axberg came out of the bullpen for the Royals tossing 1.1 scoreless innings to keep the game within reach.
Benedictine continued to add on however, plating one run in the eighth and four in the ninth extending their lead to 12-4.
The Royals season comes to an end, finishing with a 25-17 record, going 13-7 against MIAC opponents and winning their third consecutive MIAC playoff championship.
