Royals Snap Losing Streak with Defeat of Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Bethel men's tennis ended its three-match losing streak, besting Macalester 7-2 Monday night. The win moves Bethel to 11-8 on the year and 4-4 in the MIAC where they keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Royals took an early 3-0 lead sweeping the doubles matches. Then during singles play, BU stayed focused and took three consecutive singles wins at No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 securing themselves the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED.
• After going back and forth in a tight matchup, the No. 3 doubles team Robert Seaton and Eli Scheideman found themselves in a close tiebreak for the set. Once again, they exchanged points back in forth, but finally gained the upper hand at 6-6, winning the next two points to take the set 8-7 (8-6). Putting the Royals up 2-0.
• It only got better from there as the No. 1 doubles team of Gavin Hutter and Dylan Magistad made it even sweeter coming out on top 8-6 giving the Royals a good lead heading into singles play.
• Freshman Watson Sheard took control in both sets of his No. 5 singles match, at one point leading 5-0 during the first and 5-1 in the second to win the match 6-1, 6-2
• No. 1 singles Carter Sheard fell down 1-4 in the first set and was never able to make up the difference. However, he fought back in the second, winning it 6-3 to head into a third set tiebreaker. He and his opponent then exchanged leads back and forth until Sheard got the jump on him at 8-7. He then won the final two points, ending the nearly two-hour match 2-6, 6-3, 10-7
• Dylan Magistad at No. 3 started off strong in the first set, leading 5-3, but was unable to close it out. The set ultimately went into a tiebreaker, which he dominated 7-1. Then in the second, he only gave away one game, winning 7-6 (7-1), 6-1.
