NORTHFIELD, Minn – The Royals headed to Northfield Thursday afternoon for a doubleheader match-up with Saint Olaf. Failing to complete the doubleheader when play was suspended in the eighth inning of game two due to darkness.
Bethel grabbed a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning of game one on a
Matthew Carlsen bases-clearing double to right. The Royals surrendered runs in each of the next three innings however, falling 10-4.
Game one Bethel 4, Saint Olaf 10:
Carson Christiansen gave the Royals an early 1-0 lead with a single through the right side of the infield bringing home
Jordan Krupke from third.
The Oles grabbed the lead scoring a pair of runs in the second and one in the third to take a 3-1 lead.
Matthew Carlsen provided a jolt in the top half of the fourth hitting a bases clearing double to the right center field gap giving the Royals a 4-3 advantage.
Bethel fell behind late however, surrendering runs in each of the final three innings to lose by a final score of 10-4.
Matthew Carlsen went 2-for-3 in game one with a double, three RBIs and one walk. Raising his team leading batting average to .394.
Game two Bethel 6, Saint Olaf 15 (Game suspended in eighth)
The Oles plated runs in each of the opening three innings including eight in the second to grab a 15-0 lead early.
Isaac Call plated two in the fourth on a single to center,
Joe Meurer followed with an RBI single of his own.
The Royals tacked on three more in the fifth, starting with a
Zach Thompson double down the left field line scoring one, Carson Christainsen reached on an error allowing
Matthew Carlsen to come home from third and Issac Call capped off the inning with an RBI double down the left field line.
The game was suspended due to darkness in the top of the eighth to be resumed at a later date.
