AUBURNDALE, Fla. – For the second time in as many games the Bethel University baseball team picked up a win over a top-10 ranked team. Following a win over No. 10 Rowan on Friday, the Royals beat last year's World Series runner ups and No. 9th- ranked Johns Hopkins Saturday afternoon, 18-8.
Matthew Carlsen led the way going 6-for-7 at the dish with four runs and five RBIs. The six hits matched a career-high mark. His three-run homer in the sixth and RBI singles in the eight and ninth put it out of reach for the Blue Jays.
Getting the win was
Jordan Axberg (2-0) after tossing five scoreless innings of relief. He gave up three hits, walked two and struck out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Bethel wasted no time plating five runs in its opening at bat, all with two outs, before adding four more in the second.
• The preseason favorite Blue Jays used a grand slam in the first and a solo homer in the second making it 9-5 Bethel after two.
• Johns Hopkins kept its hot sticks going with a run in the third and two in the fourth pulling within one.

Carson Christiansen singled to center in the fifth brining in Carlsen putting BU up 10-8.
• Carlsen drove in five of the Royals nine unanswered to close the game.
UP NEXT
Wrapping up spring break winning five of eight games, three of those coming against ranked opponents, the Royals return to Arden Hills with a 7-4 overall mark. They host Crown on Monday, March 25 in a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
