2024 Spring Break Wrap Up: Monday, March 11

It was another busy day of action for the Bethel University Royals on their annual spring break trip. The No. 11th-ranked softball team had a pair of early morning games splitting those contests highlighted by Kayla Simacek's perfect game against Skidmore. Women's tennis remained undefeated at 8-0 with a win over Springfield while the men's tennis squad also picked up a win over the Pride. Bethel baseball faced its second nationally ranked opponent of the trip falling to No. 9 Wisconsin-La Crosse.
 
SOFTBALL: G1: North Central 7, #11 Bethel 6 // G2: #11 Bethel 7, Skidmore 0
• After NCC plated two in the third, BU responded with four in the fourth thanks to a bases clearing triple by Sydney Bartels.
• The Cardinals posted four runs in the bottom half of the fourth on pitchers Mary Hajduk and Abby Otterness.
• Bethel's comeback efforts in the seventh came up just short with an RBI single from Autumn Earney and Abby Otterness.
 
Kayla Simacek tossed her fourth career perfect game and first one that went a full seven innings. She struck out 11 in the process and threw 73 pitches.
Abby Otterness got the scoring rolling early in the first with a two-RBI single to center.
• Bethel plated two more in the second, one in the fifth on a RBI single from Hayden Glander and a sacrifice fly from Ellie Baker in the sixth.
 
UP NEXT
The Royals are back on the diamond on Wednesday, March 13 against Wilmington (11:30 am CT) and Kean (1:45 pm CT).
  
WOMEN'S TENNIS: Bethel 6, Springfield 3
• The Royals trailed 2-1 after doubles play with Lauryn Douglas and Michaella Sullivan picking up the lone doubles point at No. 1, 8-0.
• BU went on to win five singles matches only dropping No. 2 singles.
Julia Baber stayed perfect on the year winning at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-2.
Emma Thole moved her win streak to five winning No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-1.

The Royals return to the courts on Wednesday, March 13 against Hope and St. Francis (Ind.)
 
MEN'S TENNIS: Bethel 6, Springfield 3
• Bethel was up 2-1 after doubles plays getting wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spot.
Dylan Magistad picked up a win at No. 3 singles battling into the super tiebreaker 6-2, 3-6, 11-9.
Watson Sheard at No. 5 and Robert Seaton at No. 6 also picked up wins in the super tie breaker set.

UP NEXT
Bethel is back on the courts Tuesday, March 12 against Hope and St. Francis (Ind.).
 
BASEBALL: #9 Wisconsin-La Crosse 8, Bethel 3
Xavier Lortie put the Royals up 2-0 in the top of the first blasting a two-run shot over the fence.
• UWL got one back though in the bottom half of the frame with a two-out RBI single.
• The Eagles plated a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth taking a one run lead. They then put up a four spot in the eighth.
• BU managed just two hits in its final seven plate appearances.
