BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel women's hockey team defeated the Aurora University Spartans, 3-1, in their opening game of the regular season.
How It Happened:
• The Royals burst onto the scoreboard just four minutes into the game as
Julia Helget dumped the puck deep into the Spartans' end and
Maddi O'Connor gave chase, cleaning up the loose puck for the first goal of the season.
• BU headed into the second period with the one-goal lead, and a power play four minutes in gave
Malia McKinnon the opportunity to build on the lead. A shot from
Brynn Swenson ricocheted off of
Siri Olson and a Spartan defender in front of the net, and McKinnon knocked it in for a second Royal goal.
• Still, the Spartans rallied an effort and managed to notch a goal at 16:30 in the second, shrinking the Royals' lead to one goal once again.
• But Swenson added a goal of her own with just over a minute left in the third period, lobbing the puck into the back of the net and sealing the final score at 3-1, Royals.
What's Next:
The Royals will take to their home ice for the second night in a row as they finish out the series with Aurora tomorrow afternoon. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m.
