St. Peter, Minn. - The Bethel University baseball team dropped both games of their away doubleheader Tuesday evening to Gustavus (12-3, 8-0). The losses drop the Royals to second place in the MIAC standings and drops their record to 22-8 (14-4).Â
Both starting pitchers for Bethel,
Marcus Krupke and
Max Sutter, struggled on the day with Krupke giving up eight runs through four innings and Sutter giving up eight runs through 5.2 innings.Â
Two lone bright spots at the plate for the Royals were
Matthew Carlsen and
Nick Kulseth, each picking up a team-high two hits on the day.
Game 1 | Bethel 3, Gustavus 12
The Royals held the lead in this game early, scoring once in the top of the second and once in the top of the third off of a
Noah Wenberg ground ball turning into an error and a sacrifice fly from
Tommy Friesen to put the Royals up 2-0.Â
The Gusties then exploded on offense, putting up a total of twelve runs against the struggling pitching duo of
Marcus Krupke and
Michael Meadows.Â
Bethel scored one more run in the top of the seventh after a
Justin Winterfeldt RBI groundout, but it was much too little too late as the Royals dropped game one by a final of 12-3.
Game 2 | Bethel 0, Gustavus 8
The Royals could not get any offense going in game number two and were shut out by Gustie pitching.Â
Gustavus scored eight runs off of Bethel pitcher
Max Sutter, highlighted by three total home runs from the Gusties coming in the first, second, and fifth innings.Â
