Royals Silence Gusties and Punch Ticket to NCAA Tournament

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The No. 4-seeded Bethel University baseball team is the 2023 MIAC Playoff champions after defeating No. 1 seeded Gustavus for a second time in the MIAC Tournament, winning 4-0 Saturday afternoon. The Royals punch their ticket into the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season and await Monday's selection show.

A common theme through the MIAC Tournament; the Royals pulled out another elite pitching performance with Max Sutter picking up the win after going 7.2 innings giving up no runs with one walk and eight strikeouts. Aidan Nelson finished off the remaining 1.1 innings with no runs, no walks, and one strikeout.

The Royals got on the board early in the first  when Keenan Hodgkin jump-started the Royals offense with a three-run home run to left field. It was his second of the tournament where he finished with six RBI and was 5-for-10.

Bethel added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning when Matthew Carlsen stroked an RBI single to left to put the Royals up 4-0. The Royals' pitching held their ground, tossing a shutout performance.

Monday's selection show will air Monday, May 15 at 11 a.m. CT and can be viewed at NCAA.com.
