Another successful spring break day in the book for Bethel spring athletic squads. Baseball came out on top in dominating fashion over Benedictine while softball picked up another two wins. The men's and women's tennis squads wrapped up their trip in South Carolina taking on Lynchburg. The women's squad finished a perfect 4-0 on the trip with an 8-1 win while the men fell 7-2. Bethel baseball extended their winning streak to 6 games with a decisive 15-6 victory over Benedictine University Thursday morning.
Pitcher
Jordan Axberg picked up his first win on the season with three runs given up through two innings and one walk with five strikeouts.
Both Justin Winderfeldt and
Noah Wenberg picked up RBI's in the first inning with a double and a single before
Matthew Carlsen and
Ty Koehn both picked up RBI's as well, with a double and single in the second to put the Royals up 4-3.
Keenan Hodgkin hit a solo homer to left in the fourth for the Royals and the Royals continued to score in the fifth when
Tommy Friesen hit a two run single before
Ty Koehn singled again to put the Royals up 8-4.
The Royals put Benedictine away with an explosive seven-run seventh inning with an RBI single from Justin Winderfeldt, a
Noah Wenberg sacrifice fly, a
Jordan Krupke RBI single, a
Nick Kulseth walk, and a
Matthew Carlsen three-run home run.
A pitcher's duel in the opener saw a combined five hits and both runs coming in the opening frame.
Like clock work,
Allie Fauth-Kilgore walked to lead off the game before stealing second. She would score on Lexi DeBac'e infield single.
Kayla Hokanson drove in DeBace two batters later on a double to left. From there it was the
Kayla Simacek show who had a perfect game going into the seventh. A one-out infield single broke that up. She finished with 11 Ks.
In the night cap, Simacek stayed on allowing only two hits, one of which was a solo homer in the fourth. In the process she struck out 14 for her ninth win of the year.
Kayla Hokanson had herself a game going 2-for-2 with two walks. She drove in her lone run of the game in the third which made it 3-0 before her sister
Cortney Hokanson an inning later tallied her first homer of the year clearing the right field fence.
BU's runs in the seven came via a New England error and a wild pitch.

Winning streak anted up to nine straight with an 8-1 win, the BU Women's tennis team pushes its overall record to 9-1.
Julia Baber and
Emma Thole led the way in singles competition going 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0 respectively.

Lynchburg swept the singles competition, while BU was able to win two doubles matches.
Jackson Meyer and
Luke Wyly won their doubles match 8-6, as did the pair of
Ryan Ackerman and
Ethan Ahrar - winning 8-5.
Men's and women's tennis heads back to Arden Hills before traveling to Virginia, Minn. on Saturday, March 25 for the MIAC opener against St. Scholastica.
Softball concludes their trip tomorrow with games against Loras (9 a.m. ET) and Sewanee (2 p.m. ET).
Baseball takes on No. 3rd-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 1:30 p.m. ET.
