Bethel Athletics Partners with NIL Vendor INFLCR, Introduces Royal Exchange

Bethel University Athletics, in conjunction with INFCLR, has announced the historic launch of the Royal Exchange. Bethel becomes the second NCAA Division III institution to launch a platform with INFLCR aimed at connecting student-athletes and businesses directly in developing Name, Image and Likeness (NIL).

Royal Exchange, a free service to student-athletes and the commercial and nonprofit enterprises that use it, will help the Royals customize and manage NIL reporting, while providing approved businesses, and individuals with a customized portal for communicating directly with student-athletes and fulfilling NIL transactions.

"As we began looking at all the moving pieces in the current college sports and higher education landscape and studied the NCAA requirements for NIL, it became apparent that we need to have a structure in place to deal with all the complexities that NIL presents," said Director of Athletics Greg Peterson. "Working with INFLCR will not only provide opportunities for our student-athletes, it handles the compliance requirements, and also provides integrated marketing opportunities that can assist as Bethel University seeks to expand our reach. I'm so excited about this step and to see how it can enhance our student's experience."

After a business or individual registers on Royal Exchange, they can access a searchable database of Bethel student-athletes, and filter through various criteria. They can message the student-athlete directly in the application or request the student-athlete's contact information (or that of their representative) to start a discussion about a NIL transaction, provided they are within legal protocols.

Such activities may include autographs, promoting brands on social media, third-party media endorsements, running camps or clinics, providing private sports lessons, personal appearances, and more. INFLCR and BU will not be a party to the negotiations.

One unique aspect of Bethel’s approach is an intentional pursuit of nonprofit organizations that align with Bethel’s mission, to join the Royal Exchange. Nonprofit organizations can contact Bethel athletes through the Exchange and propose the same kinds of activities, such as promotions on social media or appearances at events, that athletes would agree to do without receiving payment.

“Our athletes are deeply involved in the community. We anticipate that many of them will be interested in using this platform, and their influence, to drive community engagement and give back,” says Associate Athletic Director, Gretchen Hunt.

The sign-up for businesses and nonprofits has begun at https://dash.inflcr.com/exchange/bethel-university.

BU will opt-in its student-athletes, who also may opt-out if they choose not to participate.

“It’s really exciting to now have our second DIII institution utilizing INFLCR’s Local Exchange," said Jim Cavale, INFLCR founder & president. "Bethel is setting themselves apart at the DIII level by providing their student-athletes with leading technology to maximize their NIL. When NIL is accessible to all student-athletes at any level, this kind of institutional support is crucial.”
