Baseball Blanks Augsburg Twice

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University baseball team shutout Augsburg twice Monday afternoon at Hargis Park taking both ends of a twin bill by an identical 14-0 score.

The sweep moves BU to 27-7 overall and 13-3 in conference play where they stay atop the MIAC standings. BU hits the road tomorrow traveling to Northfield for a doubleheader at St. Olaf. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

Ty Koehn and Jordan Axberg combined for the shutout in game one while Jordan Krupke got the complete-game shutout in game two. Keenan Hodgkin was a combined 5-for-8 with eight RBIs, two runs and was a triple shy of the cycle in game two.

Game 1 | Bethel 14, Augsburg 0
The Royals scored early and often as Justin Winterfeldt got it rolling with a two-run blast in the first for his team-leading eighth homer of the year. Not long after Matthew Carlsen did the same with a solo shot was his seventh of the year.

Nick Kulseth drove in a pair with his single to left making it 6-0 BU. James Woelfel brought in BU's lone run in the fourth on a single to center.

The fifth consisted of a six spot that ended with a bases loaded triple on an 0-2 pith from Keenan Hodgkin.

On the mound, Koehn threw five innings where he gave up one hit, walked one and struck out four. Axberg in two innings of relief issued one hit.

Game 2 | Bethel 14, Augsburg 0 (7 innings)
Bethel tallied three long balls in game two while putting up runs in every single plate appearance.

The scoring got going with a bases loaded walk to Hodgkin that kicked off a five-RBI game. Noah Wenberg launched his first home run of the year in the third putting the Royals up 4-0.

An Augsburg error extended the fourth allowed Hodgkin to record an RBI double. Two innings later he took the first pitch he saw and put it over the outfield fence for his third long ball of the year.

In the seventh, Tommy Friesen tallied a three-run home run before Hodgkin finished his day with a two-RBI single.
