Seventh Inning Rally Comes up Just Short for Royals against Dutch

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference matchups to Central College Sunday afternoon at Hargis Park. The Dutch used early run production taking game one 5-1 while holding off the Royals comeback efforts in game two, 4-3.

BU's pitching staff saw a combined nine different arms get work on the mound. Noah Wenberg drove in the Royals lone run in game one while Tommy Friesen went 3-for-4 driving in BU's two runs in the seventh that pulled them within one.

Game 1 | Central 5, Bethel 1
The visiting Dutch put up two runs on starter Marcus Krupke taking the early lead.

Bethel got one back in the fourth as Noah Wenberg singled to right scoring Tommy Friesen who led off the frame with a single to center. The Royals put a runner on third with no one out in the fifth but weren't able to push it across.

Central put up a three spot in the sixth on Zachary Haala who came out of the pen. The Royals had nothing doing in its final two at bats only getting a running on via a hit by pitch.

Game 2 | Central 4, Bethel 3
Central went up 4-1 with a two spot in the top of the seventh. The Royals didn't bow down in their final at bat where Nick Kulseth led off with a single. A single by Wenberg and a walk to Nolan Jurgenson loaded them up with none away.

Following a pop up in the infield for the first out, Friesen knocked in Wenberg and Kulseth by sending a 1-1 pitch through the right side. The Dutch would get a strikeout and then another pop up to take two from the Royals.

Bethel put up a tally on the board first as Ty Koehn doubled down the right field line scoring Friesen. The Royals had a chance in the fourth to break the 1-1 tie loading the bases with one away.

Central though got an inning ending 5-4-3 double play clearing the BU threat.
