ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Bethel University softball head coach
Penny Foore captured her 150th career win Thursday afternoon as the No.14th ranked Royals defeated Hamline, 6-4.
Kayla Simacek picked up a Bethel single-season record 20th win in the circle tossing six innings of work where she struck out 10, walked none and surrendered two runs. She surpasses pervious record holder Karli Persson who had 19 in 2013.
The Royals put up a three spot right off the bat.
Allie Fauth and
Lexi DeBace tallied back-to-back singles where DeBace drove in Fauth. Hokanson got her first RBI of the game driving in DeBace on a triple that stayed inside the right field foul line.
Simacek struck out five and gave up one hit the first time through the Hamline order.
In the third, a RBI groundout from
Mikaela Girard scored Fauth who started the inning by reaching via an error. Girard made it 5-0 with a RBI single to center before scoring on a double from
Kayla Hokanson.
Hamline put up two in the sixth denying BU of the shutout. Out of the pen in the seventh,
Ella Roberts gave up a pair of unearned runs before a lineout secured the Royals' 19th straight win.
Now 21-2 on the year and 10-0 in MIAC play, the Royals are back in action Saturday hosting St. Scholastica in a twin bill at 1 p.m.
