Royals Overpower Macalester in MIAC Doubleheader Sweep

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel University softball team left no double in its conference opener at Macalester as the sweep extended the Royals winning streak to 11 games. The Royals took the opener in shutout fashion 9-0 before completing the sweep in the night cap, 18-2.
 
In game two, the Royals stole a program-record 10 bags, which is also the second most in a conference game all-time. Allie Fauth matched a program-record four stolen bases which is also tied for the second most bases swiped by an individual in a MIAC game.
 
Keeping an eye on the record books, Kayla Simacek combined for eight strikeouts bringing her career total to 336 putting her 17 shy of tying current all-time leader Angela Vedders. Simacek picked up both wins in the circle
 
Game 1 | Bethel 9, Macalester 0 (6 innings)
Izzy Wilhelm kicked off the offensive onslaught with a three-run blast in the second. Allie Fauth drove in her only run of her 3-for-4 game making it 4-0 moments later.
 
BU put up a crooked number in the third before adding three more in the sixth. The sixth was highlighted by Jamie Axelberg's two-RBI double through the left side.
 
Kayla Hokanson had herself a 3-for-4 game crossing the plate three times.
 
Game 2 | Bethel 18, Macalester 2 (6 innings)
The ball was flying off the bat in game two where the Royals scored their 18 runs on 19 hits, five which went for extra bases.
 
Mikaela Girard had a standout performance where she was 2-for-5 with a run and five RBIs. Allie Fauth and Lexi DeBace each scored three times. Fauth drove in both runs in the fifth before swiping second and third for her record performance.
 
The Royals scored in every inning but the second. Angela Dabu's two-RBI infield single capped out a four-run third.
 
BU sent 14 hitters to the plate in the sixth where they scored nine runs. Hayden Glander set off the fireworks with a three-run homer.
 
Simacek tossed the final three innings of work picking up her 12th win behind five strikeouts.
 
Next Up
Now 13-2 on the year and 2-0 in MIAC play, the Royals host Hamline in the home opener Sunday at Ona Orth Athletic Complex. First pitch of the doubleheader, which will also be Mental Health Awareness Day, is scheduled for 1 p.m.
