Carlsen Drives in Five as Baseball Bats Stay Hot against Merchant Marine

FORT MYERS, Fla. – For the second time this season leadoff man Matthew Carlsen has driven in five runs leading the Bethel University baseball bats to a 13-6 victory over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Friday afternoon.

Carlsen extended his current hitting streak to 10 games going 4-for-5 at the dish with a pair of runs and a walk. Ty Koehn wasn't too far behind him driving in four runs for the second time this season while going 4-for-5 extending his hitting streak to five.

Koehn got the start on the bump picking up a no decision with four innings of work.

Timely two out hitting helped the Royals put up a crooked number in their first at bat. Noah Wenberg's double over the centerfielder's head scored Kohen who reached via a walk. Caleb Brandt sent a seeing eye single through the left side as Wenberg beat out the throw to the plate making it 2-0.

The Mariners got one back in the second before the Royals gained it right back scorn its leadoff
Walk in Marcus Krupke.

Carlsen brought in his first run of the day in the third with a bases loaded walk before Koehn followed it up with a two-out, two-RBI single to center.

The Royals wouldn't score again until the fifth, again with two outs, as Carlsen cleared the right field wall for a two-run shot putting BU up 8-3.

Bethel put up a four spot in the sixth and tallied a run in the seventh again thanks to Carlsen's two-out production.

Nicholas Johnson picked up his first win of the season on the mound providing 1.2 innings of relief where he gave up one run and two hits while striking out two.

Bethel has its hands full in the spring break finale Saturday morning when they take on undefeated and No. 4 nationally ranked Eastern Connecticut State. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. EDT at Terry Park Stadium #1.
