ROGERS, Minn. – Going into singles play the Bethel University men's tennis team knew they would be in for some tightly contested matches. Leading 2-1 after doubles play, the Royals got key victories from its No. 3, 6 and 5 singles players capturing the 5-4 victory.
Zach Kantor and
Joey Mueller picked up a convincing win at No. 2 doubles before
Tyler Creelman and
Jacob Lukkarila secured Bethel's second point.
Mueller and Lukkarilla won in straight sets giving Bethel at 4-1 lead.
Jason Reilly secured the Royals' fifth team point in hard fought fashion. After dropping his opening set in a tiebreaker, he bounced back winning the second set handily before taking the third-set tiebreaker 10-5.
Of the remaining singles matches, BU lost two of the three in third-set tiebreakers.
The Royals improve to 5-7 overall and 5-2 in MIAC play, With two conference matches remaining, BU is back in action Monday against Gustavus Adolphus. First serve at Ona Orth Athletic Complex is scheduled for 4 p.m.
