Arden Hills, Minn. – The Bethel University men's tennis team topped Hamline University with a 9-0 sweep on Thursday evening at Ona Orth.
In doubles play, juniors
Erik Beckers and
Jason Reilly started the Royals off strong with a convincing 8-3 win over the Pipers. At second doubles,
Zach Kantor and
Joey Mueller bested their opponents 8-2.
Tyler Creelman and
Jacob Lukkarila pulled out an 8-1 victory at third doubles to put the Royals ahead 3-0 as they continued into singles play.
The Royals translated their superior play into singles, as all six positions ended the night with a victory. Beckers battled at No. 1 singles to earn his 6-3, 6-1 win, while Kantor followed suit with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Reilly also came out on top with a convincing score of 6-0, 6-1. Luke Wyly won in straight sets, while
Tyler Creelman clinched the tiebreaker at No. 4 singles to complete the sweep.
The men will continue MIAC play on Saturday as they play St. John's in Collegeville, Minnesota. The first ball is set to be played at 3:30 pm.
