MINNEAPOLIS – The Bethel University baseball team earned an opening day sweep over Crown College by identical scores of 7-1 Monday evening inside U.S. Bank Stadium.
Joey Fredrickson had a heck of a night at the plate going 4-for-6 with a pair of extra base hits and driving in six runs.
Marcus Krupke threw a gem in game one, surrendering one run in the seven-inning complete game effort.
Game 1: Bethel 7, Crown 1
A four-run first inning highlighted with a two-out two-RBI triple from
James Woelfel got the Royals off and running.
Krupke didn't allow a Crown runner past first until the fifth with a one-out double.
Jordan Krupke and
Joey Fredrickson added insurance runs in the sixth with Krupke scoring on a passed ball and Fredrickson doubling to left driving in
Caleb Brandt.
Crown added a run in the sixth before
Marcus Krupke shut the door in the seventh ending the game with his fifth strikeout.
Game 2: Bethel 7, Crown 1
Doubles by
Caleb Brandt and Fredrickson sparked a three-run opening inning for the Royals who played as the visitors in game two.
Crown put up its only run in the first before being shut down by the Royals pitching staff the rest of the way. Bethel added runs in the second and fifth with a RBI single from Fredrickson and RBI double from
Marcus Krupke.
Fredrickson completed his six RBI night with a two-RBI single to center in the sixth.
Starter
Matthew Bohlke picked up the win in game two giving up one run in four innings of work. Two innings of relief from
Peyton Gallagher and one inning from
Blake Williams saw the Bethel bullpen allow one runner on through the final three innings. That coming via a walk.
