Royals Outslug Wayne State in Tuesday Matinee

AUBURNDALE, Fla.  – Make it two in a row! Coming off yesterday's 4-3 series opening win over Wayne State, the bats stayed hot for the Bethel University baseball team taking the Tuesday matinee, 7-2.

A four-run fifth inning was highlighted with Keenan Hodgkin's two-RBI single up the middle and Justin Winterfeldt's two-run homer over the left-center wall.

Bethel (5-1) scored first using small ball where Nick Wibben executed a squeeze play down the third base line scoring Winterfedlt who came in as a pinch runner for Ty Koehn. Wayne State (5-3) evened it up, scoring its lead-off double in the fifth before Bethel's onslaught of runs came in the home half of the inning.

Starter Marcus Krupke was lights out retiring the first 10 hitters he faced before giving up a hit. Improving to 2-0, Krupke struck out five, allowed one run and walked none in eight innings of work. Out of the pen, Peyton Gallagher allowed one run on one hit in the ninth.

The Royals added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth with a RBI double from Winterfeldt and a sacrifice fly from Thomas Friesen respectively.

The two teams close out the three-game series Thursday in the Sunshine State at 1 p.m. eastern time.
