Going out with a bang, the Bethel University men's hockey team capped off its 2019-20 campaign with a thrilling overtime victory over Gustavus Adolphus thanks to an empty net goal from freshman forward
Jarrett Cammarata.
The win helped the Royals record their best overall winning-percentage since 2011-12 at 7-14-4 (.360). Despite falling two points shy of the MIAC Playoffs, BU recorded its best conference mark at 6-6-4 (.500) since 2009-10.
Along with winning percentage accomplishments, Bethel saw improvements on the ice picking up its first conference sweep since 2012-13 with wins over St. Mary's which came in the form of a 4-3 overtime win and 5-3 victory in the series finale. BU set a program record with four ties this year, all which came against MIAC competition.
In the record books, senior netminder
Joe Sheppard tallied a season record with a .922 save percentage in 12 games.
The future looks bright for the boys returning their top six point scorers, three of which were freshman. Cammarata led the squad with a 17-point season thanks to a team-leading 11 assists. Sophomore
Josiah Roen lit up the lamp with a team-leading 10 goals, the most by an individual since Travis Payne in the 2015-16 season.
